Florida’s Heartland Rural Consortia for the Homeless is committed to assisting individuals and families who have become homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless to obtain housing stability and improve their quality of life. Toward this end, Florida’s Heartland Rural Consortia for the Homeless, Inc., transacts to promote the general social welfare of the homeless communities in Desoto, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Glades and Okeechobee Counties; and for that purpose:

  • Coordinate existing shelter and support programs for the homeless

  • Identify and evaluate unmet needs in all six counties

  • Explore and develop all possible resources to meet the unmet needs and to create or expand existing programs for the homeless

  • Educate elected officials, community leaders and the public of the needs and circumstances of the homeless

  • Generate additional housing, employment, education and counseling/rehabilitative and health related programs required for a long range solutions to the problems of the homeless.
